BEOVISION 5 (2002)

Leaning against the wall

Many people do not want to drill holes in their walls. They do not like bundles of wires or cable trays on their walls either. They think of the next time they have to redecorate or paint. They think: "How will it look when there is no picture - when the screen is turned off"?

This raises a problem. On the one hand we now have the chance to fulfil the futuristic dream of the flat picture on the wall. On the other hand we have a doubt as to the successful fulfilment of this dream, when people realise how it will affect the arrangements in their homes.

David Lewis thought of this problem for a long time. Was it possible to get an idea that could solve this problem?

One day he visited a gallery and stood in the doorway. Inside, the people were busy preparing for the next exhibition. Leaning against the walls were paintings, waiting to be hung up. Lewis suddenly felt that here he had the solution to the  problem. A picture which can hang on the wall can also be placed on the floor, leaning against the wall. A grand idea for the design of BeoVision 5 was born - the first plasma television set from Bang & Olufsen
