Open Sesame!

With the sound refined almost to perfection, the appeal is instead directed towards feelings and inclination. Lewis wanted to come up with a solution for a Hi-Fi system in which an experience of readiness would meet the user as she approached it. Like an invitation to come a little closer.

Late in the idea phase he was still working to find the right expression for these characteristics, until one day he suddenly stopped at the entrance to the local supermarket. Here it was - the right feeling - the magic open.

Lewis transformed that feeling with the pair of sliding doors for the BeoSystem, in which American I.D. Magazine identified the basic 'ceremony that's involved in playing music'.

With it's lightness and openness, BeoSystem Ouverture paved the road for yet a new generation of products from Bang & Olufsen. It was referred to as 'La Haute Couture de la Hi-Fi' by French journal Le Nouvel Observateur, while Lewis himself was made 'Le Roi du Design' on the grounds of the music system by Le Figaro.
